Pets bring unique joy into our lives

We are delighted that you are thinking about welcoming a new family member into your home!
It is important to know that Fur the Love of Animals (FTLOA) prioritizes the wellness and happiness of all the animals in our care when considering placement into a new household. The goal is to find matches that last, minimizing the stress on pets that comes from being surrendered—For not only are they losing their family and home, they are losing their safe spaces, their routines, their entire life as they knew it.
With that goal in mind, we do not rush the process. Every animal that comes to FTLOA is guaranteed sanctuary with us for life, but, of course, our primary aim is to find each of them a loving furever home.
Prior to adoption, please make sure that everyone in your household is in agreement about bringing in a new pet. We will not approve prospective adopters looking to gift an animal to someone else. If you have any questions about what to expect once you bring your new family member home, we are in the process of creating resources; in the mean time, please feel free to contact us.
It is the adoptee's responsibility to have everything prepared before an animal may be taken home.
This includes (but is not limited to): food; treats; toys; bedding; a carrier and/or leash, collar, and harness; sanitation tools (i.e., litter boxes, poop-scoops); a species-appropriate habitat, if applicable.
Thank you for considering Fur the Love of Animals as you search for your next pet. We are looking forward to supporting you through this process!
Please note that we do not breed, trade, or purchase animals to sell.
If there are no animals listed below then we do not currently have any up for adoption.
02
Adoption Fee
A fee is required to adopt an animal from FTLOA. Adoption fees help cover animal care expenses, including but not limited to: meals; medication and supplements; medical care; and enrichment. Fees vary for each species, and you can find the amounts below.
03
No Time Restrictions
We want to see all of our adoptable animals find the best possible furever home. This means we will wait for the ideal match that will allow the individual animal to thrive in health, wellness, and happiness whether that takes a week or a year. The process cannot be rushed.
04
MEdicial Care Included
Animals will receive medical examinations from a licensed veterinarian and any appropriate treatments to ensure they are healthy and up-to-date on vaccinations. Any animals requiring specialized care for an illness will receive the treatment(s) prior to adoption.

Meet Wammawink! Formerly known as Baby Girl, Wammawink's namesake comes from a character in the TV show Centaurworld. Through the show, she affectionately refers to the protagonist as "Baby Girl" in a very distinctive way. Upon learning our intake's name, we immediately thought of Wammawink and how she expressively says "Baby Girl." It was just meant to be.
Wamma Mamma is a petite girl with super soft purrs and a barely audible meow. While she prefers to keep all four on the floor, she does fancy napping next to you if not occasionally on your lap. She enjoys a good cushioned chair or plush pet bed, and she becomes very excited about treats. If you are looking for a calm, low-maintenance, and adorable feline friend then Wammawink may just be your girl!
Wammawink currently shares her cat room with fellow senior, Boris. While she is not interested in playing with other cats, she does acclimate to new felines quickly. So long as they are respectful of her older lady ways, Wamma would do well in a home with another cat or two.
Being that she is a senior, older and gentle children would be best. While she may do well with an older, cat-savvy dog, Wammawink would thrive more so in a calm, quiet environment, thus puppies and rowdy dogs are not a good fit.
While Ms. Wamma still navigates her environment well, she is slowing down and showing hind end weakness, which is very common in older pets. Cat beds, perches, and other spaces dedicated to her use should be lower to the ground and easy to climb onto. Joint supplements may be beneficial, but always check with your veterinarian if you have any questions. An age-appropriate diet is highly recommended to ensure she is receiving the nutrients she needs to thrive as an older lady.
While they can certainly be adopted separately, Boris and Wammawink are excellent candidates for being adopted together.

Meet Boris! This kind old fella is ready to find the purrfect retirement home! Estimated to be between 14 and 15 years old, Boris is a happy guy who speaks his mind and provides impactful head bumps.
Since he came to FTLOA, he has been put on a diet to help him progress towards a more healthy weight. He was given a clean bill of health by our veterinarian and he is up-to-date on his vaccines. Boris is microchipped and FeLV/FIV negative.
Boris originally came from a home with small children, and he does very well with kids. While he was nervous for the first few days, he acclimated quickly and has proven to be very friendly. He is frequently found snoozing in his cat bed by the window or curled up in his blanket brought from his original home. When not napping, Boris adores playing with toys (especially at night), getting brushed, and snuggling next to you.
While Boris has been with us, he has been introduced to several cats, and he currently lives with our other senior, Wammawink. Boris has shown a preference for a female feline companion and tends to dislike other males. Being an older gent, the energy of a kitten may not be the best for him, but if they were a more gentle player and female it could be an adorable match!
Boris is scared of dogs and will not be adopted to a family with canine companionship.
While they can certainly be adopted separately, Boris and Wammawink are excellent candidates for being adopted together.

Meet Tortilla! This super sweet lady was brought in a few weeks ago after being humanely captured. She was living nearby a locally established cat colony in West Brattleboro for a few months and her rescuers were concerned that she may be pregnant. Upon examination, there is evidence that Tortilla recently birthed a litter but had either weened the kittens already or the babies did not survive outdoors. Due to her handleability and disposition, it is very likely Tortilla was abandoned and is not a feral cat.
Tortilla is an absolute gem! She is incredibly friendly, playful, adaptable, and unfazed by her recent life experiences. Based on her musculature and teeth, Tortilla is a very young cat and is anywhere between 8 and 18 months old. Earlier this week (4/1/25), Tortilla was given a clean bill of health by our veterinarian. She is now up to date on all of her vaccines and services, she tested negative for FeLV/FIV, and she was microchipped during her spay surgery. As of April 7th, Tortilla will be ready to go to her new furever home!
Shortly after Tortilla came to us, another stray was captured by the same folks and brought to our home-based facility. Tortilla was super excited to see Spooks, and the feeling was mutual. Turns out, Tortilla and Spooks were frequently seen hanging outside together not too far from the feral cat colony. While we are not requiring Tortilla and Spooks to be adopted together, our fingers are crossed that they can continue sharing space and experiences in their new home.
Tortilla is not at all a fan of dogs and would do best in a home without any canine companions. When it comes to other cats, it has depended greatly on their energy and personality. If Tortilla were a person, she would be an extroverted, busy body, type A gal, and she has really preferred spending time with lower energy, calm, and respectful males (which easily describes Spooks). She has little patience for pushy, hyper cats.
Most likely, Tortilla would do very well with older, respectful children, and they'll likely become her favorite if they toss toys all the time for her to chase. This girl basically embodies zoomies, and she is a riot to watch.
If you're looking for a cat that wants to be involved in all of your daily activities, demands lap time, and in secret wishes she could Velcro-attach to you, Tortilla is your lady!

Meet Ula! This beautiful tortie has settled well into her new indoor lifestyle. Feral for over two years with an unknown history, it can understandably take Ula time to warm up. When she does, Ula can be very affectionate. She enjoys napping right beside you or in your lap, and will politely request attention when desired.
Ula does maintain stricter boundaries, and it's important to understand that her relationship to people is very different than cats raised around humans from kittens. With patience, respect, and kindness, Ula will thrive, and she will make a wonderful companion for the right person.
Due to her history, we will not adopt Ula to a household with young children, as her corrections could injure and scare them. Being a tortie, she indeed possesses the famous "tortitude." Ula does not like dogs and she will not tolerate sharing her space with another cat.

Ula loves Temptations cat treats and her "babies" (aka stuffed animals). While she's not a fan of cat nip, she does enjoy rubbing all over cat nip filled toys. Ula also enjoys chasing after little mouse toys thrown for her.

Meet Houdini! Found as an emaciated stray, this little fellow was temporarily cared for by Rose Rittenhour, Founder and President of The Retirement Roost Rescue in Vernon, VT. After receiving a wellness exam, vaccinations, and getting neutered, Houdini came to FTLOA to heal, decompress, and gain much needed weight.
Houdini is a shy guy, very uncertain when it comes to people, but an absolute feline fan! Orin, one of our resident cats, regularly visits Houdini supervised by staff. Orin loves it because he gets to be involved and receives tasty treats, and Houdini adores the chance to interact with his first feline friend at the rescue.
It is super important that Houdini's furever family has another kitty (or more) in the home. Cat companions help Houdini feel comfortable more quickly and he truly adores them. Since he first arrived in September 2024, Houdini has met many cats and has done well every time. Being playful with other cats, Houdini would enjoy a younger feline friend, and so far he has shown a preference for male cats.
Houdini is not a huge fan of men and shows more signs of anxiety and stress when one is nearby, but he has been able to show comfort with the male caregiver here as time went on.
Unfortunately, Houdini's behavior and reactions indicate past abuse by humans, and he has yet to want physical affection. That does not stop him from purring and making biscuits when we praise and speak to him in a soft, higher pitched voice. Despite his sad history, Houdini is a super sweet guy. When he is nervous, he just scuttles away and may hide. It's important that he always have a quiet, enclosed space to return to when he is feeling anxious--this helped Houdini tremendously in acclimating to his new lifestyle.
As Houdini is easily startled and sensitive to loud, fast-paced commotion, he would prefer a quiet and calm home without young children or dogs.
As one of our Whisper Whiskers, it is important to understand that Houdini may always prefer the companionship of other felines to people, and he may never enjoy human contact. Nevertheless, he is very entertaining with toys and he adores getting to play with a variety.
Houdini went through a lot in the beginning of his life (he's still under 2 years old), and we cannot wait to see him find his furever family that wishes to welcome him as he is. He's a charmer when he finally feels comfy with you.

Meet Havok! This handsome pup is currently residing with a foster while seeking his furever home. Havok is used to living with another dog (female) and has shown submissive behavior when meeting new dogs. With proper introductions, he will likely do well and enjoy a canine companion. When it comes to people, Havok has lived with adults and seniors only. He has shown no preference between men and women.

His foster reports that he is a more vocal dog. He chuffs and barks when excited, and he does sound the alarm when there is a knock at the door or strangers walk by. Due to his separation anxiety, Havok would prefer a home where he can be around his family more often than not.

Due to his large size and having never been around kids before, we do not recommend he go to a home with young children. Older children may be fine. Havok does have a history of going after chickens, and with his high prey-drive he cannot live with cats or smaller free-roaming pets.

Meet Charlie and Drew! This male-female bonded pair of cockatiels are looking for their furever home together. Due to on-going medical complications and hospitalization, the owner made the difficult decision to surrender their birds. Charlie and Drew are temporarily living off-site with a foster.

Once comfortable, Charlie enjoys singing a few jingles, including "The Addams Family" and "Dancing in September" while Drew tends to be on the quiet side. Charlie really enjoys mist baths while Drew tolerates them. When it comes to training, Charlie is very seed motivated while Drew has been too anxious for seeds to be rewarding enough.
If Drew is out of the habitat Charlie will demand to be as well. He does not like to be too far from his lady, and he will vocalize his displeasure! As bonded as these two cuties are they will only be adopted out together.
They have lived in a household with cats around as well as younger children, but they are not fond of being handled by kids. Drew is very docile in nature, and while both will tolerate handling they are a bit skittish. Of course, their current hesitancy with people could be due to all the recent stress in moving from their home to a temporary foster.
As parrots they need to be kept warm, provided an appropriate diet that is not predominantly seeds, and offered toys and a cuttlefish bone for their beaks. If not given bird-safe items for chewing, their beaks will grow and need to be trimmed by an avian vet.
